Legal and Ethical Practices

Legal and ethical practices are a necessary when working with not only the Internet but also books, magazines, newspapers, CDroms and DVDs. When reproducing these tools by photocopying or copying you can only use 10% of the resources content. If you do exceed this it is classified as illegal reproduction. The only way you can reproduce more then the 10% is if you have written permission from the author or publisher. Another concern for learning managers in relation to copyrighting is hyperlinking. When hyperlinking it is essential to ensure that students hyperlink to the home page of a website, this ensures that you are obeying all laws.

Learning managers are responsible for children's safety when they are working online and therefore need to up to date and aware of all practices on line. It is extremely important that if a learning manager is publishing work or images of students online that parent permission is given. This point is extremely important for the safety and security of the students and should be taken very seriously by all educational professionals.
